Using EasySearch on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8

EasySearch was originally written to operate on Windows XP.  It will successfully operate on any version of Windows but the installation is a little more complex and cannot be completed automatically - it requires some user action to work.

To get EasySearch to work do the following:

Step 1 : Install the software

If you make a note of the install location from the Select Destination screen this will help in step 2.

In this case it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Softouch\EasyWorship

Step 2 : Find the EasySearch program

You now need to find the file EasySearch.exe.  This will be in a location like C:\Program Files\Softouch\EasyWorship or C:\Program Files (x86)\Softouch\EasyWorship depending on your language, operating system or variant (32/64 bit).

Step 3 : Modify the Compatibility Mode of EasySearch

Windows allows older programs to run in Compatibility Mode.  This means the that the program thinks it is running on Windows XP even when it isn't.  Since EasySearch was written for Windows XP it needs to run in XP compatibility mode.

Note: To make these changes you may need to be an Administrator or to know the Administrator password.

  1. Right-click the file EasySearch.exe and select Properties.
  2. Select the Compatibility tab.
  3. Click the check-box Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
  4. If necessary select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the combo-box:

You should now be able to run EasySearch.  If you still have problems try checking the box Run this program as an administrator.

(Technical Note: The problem is the way EasySearch reads the Song database.  This relies on access to files that were allowed in XP but are forbidden in later operating systems).
